I wanted to provide you an update regarding robbery, which some members around this area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the Met Engage priority survey. On Saturday 6th December TSG 5:2 were deployed to Westminster as part of Operation Baselife, they were on mobile patrol in Berkely Square, when an eagle eyed member of the public noticed three males acting suspiciously, following a group of females whilst making reference to the high value goods worn by the females, specifically watches. The group spoke in Arabic to one another; however the informant also spoke Arabic and was able to translate!
The informant followed the group whilst quickly calling Police, to which the TSG responded. With the informant’s clear direction and updates, two males were then quickly identified and detained by Officers on Piccadilly. After speaking with the informant, the two males were arrested for conspiracy to commit robbery. Both males gave false details initially however with their true identities revealed...
• Both males were then found to have committed a robbery of a watch together just a few hours prior in Camden. • Male one was also wanted for another watch robbery investigation whereby a watch to the value of £150,000 was stolen in Westminster and he had Cannabis in his possession. • Male two was wanted for another watch robbery in Camden ground and wanted by the Home Office for immigration offences. Male one was charged and remanded to court for Robbery x 2 and possession Class B drugs. Male two was charged and remanded to court for Robbery x 3 & awaiting immigration enforcement. This was a brilliant piece of police work with the public very much working with the Police to secure the arrests of 2 watch robbers that we do not want in our West End community!
We will continue to tackle robbery in your local area. While we are investigating and arresting those responsible, please consider following the below advice to keep yourself and your property safe: Do not leave your phone, tablet or other digital goods unattended, out of sight or on a table. Be aware of your surroundings and only use your phone when it is safe to do so. Put your phone away when you have finished using it. Secure your phone by choosing a strong pin or password Keep a note of your IMEU number (to access, type *#06# on your phone keypad) Plan your route, especially if you are going somewhere you have not been before. Keep to busy, well-lit streets and walkways. Move with purpose and appear confident.
